A little bit before my trip to New York for Afro Punk I went shopping with a friend of mine to find outfits for the festival. We were looking for special pieces with funky prints or African inspired patterns. It was a lot harder than we thought. During our search we randomly stopped into H&M and this funky all over print kimono caught my eye. The brick red and pops of orange gave me hope for an “Afro Centric” look. What made it even better was that it was only $10, yes 10 bucks!

I knew that a simple black two piece would be just enough under the kimono so I thought about what I had in my closet already. I had a pair of black cotton short shorts from Scotch and Soda and a bralette from Urban Outfitters that together made the perfect little two piece set.

To spice up the look and make it more festival-ish I wore a pair of shiny patent leather combat boots from Asos. I was happy I went with them though because they were SUPER comfortable throughout the day. From catching the train to walking those long New York blocks, combat boots was for sure the best idea for the weekend.

And of course accessories were a necessity, so I threw on my burgundy choker from Necessary Clothing and bought an adorable mini backpack from Forever21. I was shocked it held all of my shit and didn’t feel like a burden to carry lol.

Last but not least, to keep the youthful festival vibe, I gave myself two braids and two mini buns. I thought it would be fun and I feel like it really tied the whole look together. I hope you guys enjoyed this outfit as much as I did! (Highlighted links are clickable for items that are still available)
